Toronto’s Sherry Media Group has acquired Canadian distribution rights to Yan Ma’s The Unrestricted War (Brilliant Media).
The film is slated for a national theatrical release on May 16.
The Unrestricted War follows a Canadian virologist who, along with his wife, is detained by military agents in Beijing. The film stars Vancouver-born Dylan Bruce, Chinese-Canadian Nadia Hatta and Edmonton-born Terry Chen. It is written by Ma and Rob W. King.
The film was shot in Toronto, Markham, Ont. and Hamilton, Ont. from the end of 2023 to early 2024, a spokesperson for the film told Playback Daily.
The Epoch Times and the Canada Media Fund funded the film, which is licensed by New Tang Dynasty Television.
Sherry has also recently acquired Reagan, Am I Racist? and The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie. In June 2024, the company acquired Canadian rights to Vancouver filmmaker Josephine Anderson’s feature documentary Curl Power.
