Crave acquires An Optimist’s Guide for second season

The Canada/U.K. coproduction's second season will air as a Crave Original in Canada.

Bell Media’s Crave has acquired An Optimist’s Guide to the Planet for a second season, a Crave spokesperson told Playback Daily.

The Canada/U.K. coproduction, from Toronto’s Cream Productions and the U.K’s Wildfire Television in association with Bloomberg, Ill Kippers Aps and Bell Media, follows Game of Thrones actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (pictured) as he travels around the world in a quest to transform environmental pessimism into hope.

The series will air as a Crave Original in Canada and airs internationally on Bloomberg’s platforms. According to a release on Bloomberg’s renewal of the series, the new six-episode season will begin production in May, running through August. Its premiere is currently slated for Q4 2025.

The first 6 x 48-minute season, which premiered on Crave as an original in February 2024, was directed by Toronto’s Mark Stevenson and produced by Kathryn Liptrott.

The second season is being produced by Cream’s Stephanie Weimar with David Brady, Philip Clarke, Kate Harrison Karman, Coster-Waldau, Joe Derrick, Jennifer Baichwal and Nicholas de Pencier remaining as executive producers across both seasons.
