Prime Video has renewed the non-treaty series House of David, co-produced by Calgary’s Nomadic Pictures, for season two.

The greenlight comes following the first three episodes of season one premiering globally on the platform on Feb. 27, and according to a release the series garnered 22 million viewers in its first 17 days. The series is a retelling of the biblical story of the shepherd who eventually becomes the king of Israel. Season two will follow the aftermath of the battle between David and Goliath.

The 8 x 60-minute first season was a co-production between Amazon MGM Studios, Nomadic, Santa Monica-based Wonder Project and Athens’ Argonauts Productions alongside Kingdom Story Company and Lionsgate Television. It is created by Wonder Project’s Jon Erwin.

The series shot in Greece with a significant Canadian crew including production designers such as Chad Krochuk, Vancouver-based stunt coordinator Kimani Ray-Smith, post-production producer Todd Giroux, first assistant director Michael Shandley and directors Alexandra La Roche and Michael Nankin.

Nomadic co-founders and co-chairmen Michael Frislev and Chad Oakes will return as executive producers for season two, alongside Wonder Project’s Jon Gunn, Erwin and Justin Rosenblatt as well as Vancouver’s Jonathan Lloyd Walker, who was co-showrunner and writer on season one. Walker will return as a writer for season two while U.S. screenwriter Trey Callaway is onboard as the series’ new showrunner and writer alongside other new writers Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris, Oakes told Playback Daily.

According to Oakes, season two will also be eight episodes, with the production set to to return to Greece although no dates have been set.

Much of the cast is set to return for season two, including Canadian actor Louis Ferreira.

The first season finale is set to stream April 3.
