Toronto-based Visitor Media is teaming with London’s Dogwoof, New York’s Rolling Stone Films, CBC and Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna’s Mexico City-based La Corriente de Golfo on the docuseries SNOW KING: From Olympian to Narco.

The series will follow the headline-grabbing story of Thunder Bay, Ont.-born Ryan Wedding, a former Olympic snowboarder turned alleged cartel associate who is now on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list with a US$10 million reward after a number of charges, including the murders of four in Ontario.

The prodcos have been filming across Canada, the U.S. and Mexico since January with a team of journalists, including the Toronto Star‘s Calvi Leon (pictured).

Given that the story is actively unfolding, there is no scheduled release date at this time, a CBC spokesperson told Playback Daily.

Dogwoof CEO Anna Godas and Vistor president Sean O’Neill are onboard as producers. The project is the first in a multi-year development partnership between Dogwoof and Visitor, formed following director Chelsea McMullan’s documentary feature and four-part CBC series Swan Song, about ballet star Karen Kain’s final production of Swan Lake.
