The Roku Channel picks up comedy Bria Mack Gets a Life

The comedy series about a Black woman and her invisible hype girl drops on the AVOD platform on Feb. 14 in multiple territories.

The Roku Channel has acquired the comedy Bria Mack Gets a Life in a multi-territory licensing deal with producer New Metric Media.

The 6 x 30-minute series will be available to stream on the AVOD platform on Friday (Feb. 14) in the U.S., Canada, the U.K. and Mexico.

Bria Mack Gets a Life is created by Sasha Leigh Henry and follows a young Black woman, played by Malaika Hennie-Hamadi (The Handmaid’s Tale), whose inner thoughts are manifested through her invisible hype girl (Hannan Younis). It is directed by Henry and Kelly Fyffe-Marshall.

Additional cast include Leslie Adlam (Rubble & Crew), Manuel Rodriguez-Saenz (Black Summer), Amalia Williamson (Sullivan’s Crossing), Marlee Sansom (Backspot), Preeti Torul (Ghosts), Robert Bazzocchi (Gen V), Nia Cummins (Cruel Intentions), Robert Clarke (Murdoch Mysteries), Shannon Jardine (Step Dogs), Catherine De Sève (Happily Married) and Mark Forward (Letterkenny).

Executive producers for Bria Mack are New Metric Media president Mark Montefiore, Tania Thompson and Henry. Angelique Knights and Tamar Bird are the series producers.

The series was originally commissioned by Crave, premiering on Oct. 13, 2023. It had a world premiere at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival and won Best Comedy Series at the 2024 Canadian Screen Awards. Bell Media confirmed shortly after that the series would not be renewed for a second season.

New Metric signed a first-look deal with Henry last June to produce original film, TV and theatre projects.
