W Network has acquired the Canadian rights to Mistletoe Murders, the Christmas-themed mystery series based on the original Audible podcast of the same name.
The six-episode series is produced by Lionsgate Canada and Toronto’s Headspinner Productions for Hallmark Media’s streaming service Hallmark+ and was filmed in Toronto earlier this year. It will debut on W Network on Nov. 18, following its U.S. premiere on Hallmark+ on Oct. 31.
Headspinner chief creative officer Ken Cuperus is the series creator and showrunner, and also created the original podcast, which has run for two seasons as an Audible original. Audible is debuting season three of the podcast on Nov. 7.
Mistletoe Murders stars U.S. actor Sarah Drew (Grey’s Anatomy) as the owner of a Christmas-themed store who finds herself investigating her small town’s murders, and the local detective (played by Canadian actor Peter Mooney) who starts to suspect she has a mystery of her own.
The series also stars newcomer Sierra Marilyn Riley, Jean Yoon (Kim’s Convenience), Lara Amersey (Operation Nutcracker) and Kylee Evans (Good Witch). Guest stars include Canadian actors Tom Cavanagh (The Flash), Jake Epstein (Suits) and Steven Lund (Schitt’s Creek).
Executive producers on Mistletoe Murders are Cuperus, Drew, Headspinner president Michelle Melanson and Lionsgate Canada’s Jocelyn Hamilton. Grant Harvey (The Way Home) is co-executive producer and Robbie David (Dark Matter) is a producer.
Mistletoe Murders is part of the Corus Entertainment-owned specialty channel’s annual Hallmark Countdown to Christmas programming, which includes 40 new TV movies premiering between Oct. 18 and Dec. 22.
