The Toronto-based exec died unexpectedly in August, according to her obituary.

Longtime media executive Courtney Colman has died at age 58.

The Toronto-based CFO of North American studio Happy Accidents died unexpectedly on Aug. 12, according to her obituary. Her death was announced by Happy Accidents on Tuesday (Sept. 24).

“Courtney was an irreplaceable part of our burgeoning team and is deeply missed by family, friends, and colleagues around the world,” read the statement.

Colman spent more than 30 years working in strategic finance in the entertainment industry, holding positions in the U.K., the U.S. and Canada.

After earning her Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Toronto, Colman began her career at Ernst & Young and became a chartered accountant in 1992.

She held CFO roles at a number of media companies, including the Motion Picture Corporation Of America, Mob Scene LLC, the XPRIZE Foundation, Bellum Entertainment LLC, Gold Circle Entertainment, Porchlight Entertainment, First Look Studios and Lieberman Research Worldwide.

Colman was hired by Happy Accidents earlier this year to lead its Toronto office as part of an expansion to the Canadian market.

“It is hard to find the words to express our shock and grief at losing such a magnetic person so suddenly,” said Happy Accidents co-founder and co-CEO Eric Jarboe. “Courtney was a close friend and she made an indelible impact on the entertainment industry during her formidable career.”

Colman is survived by her children Patrick and Sophie.
