Creative BC selects 12 prodcos for development support

A total of $600,000 has been allocated to B.C.-owned prodcos to help create original IP.

Creative BC has selected 12 B.C.-based production companies for $600,000 in support through its Slate Development Program.

The program helps mid-level and experienced B.C. producers develop original IP to attract national and international buyers. It is supported by the province’s Domestic Motion Picture Fund.

The selected companies include Ceroma Films, Reality Distortion Field, Screen Siren Pictures, Orca Cove Media, Independent Edge Films and a co-investment for Hope of Glory Pictures and Jenkinson/Goode Productions.

Rounding out the recipients are Doberman Pictures, Goodbye Productions, MCM2 Productions, Taxam Films, Terra Films and Viva Mantra Films.

According to Creative BC, 67% of the funding has been distributed to companies with a majority ownership from individuals who identify as Indigenous, Black, a person of colour, 2SLGBTQIA+, women, non-binary, or are living with a disability.

“Expanding the capacity of B.C.’s production companies to produce creative content is a key part of growing B.C.’s domestic motion picture industry,” said Lana Popham, B.C.’s minister of tourism, arts, culture and sport, in a statement. “By supporting these companies to develop multiple projects, we are helping them compete in an increasingly tight market and create jobs for locals.”
