Deals: Cineflix, Audible, Pluto TV, Thunderbird

The Wynonna Earp universe expands with a TV special acquisition and an audio drama, Pluto TV adds CBC news channels, and more.

Gunslinging Canadian cult hit franchise Wynonna Earp is expanding its universe with deals for a TV special and a new audio drama.

U.K. network Sky has acquired the 90-minute special Wynonna Earp: Vengeance ahead of its Friday (Sept. 13) debut. The title was commissioned by Tubi, which is releasing it in Canada, the U.S., Latin America and Australia. Cineflix Rights handles worldwide sales.

Wynonna Earp was created by Emily Andras, based on the graphic novels by Beau Smith. The series is set in a town cursed with demons locked in a generational battle with the titular heroine. It ran for four seasons on Syfy in the U.S. and CTV Sci-Fi in Canada.

Wynonna Earp: Vengeance is produced by Calgary’s SEVEN24 Films in association with Cineflix Studios for Tubi. It is written by Andras and directed by Paolo Barzman. Executive producers are Andras, Jordy Randall, Tom Cox, Brett Burlock, Sonia Hosko, Todd Berger and Rick Jacobs.

Further expanding the brand, SEVEN24 Films has secured a deal with Audible for an audio drama set in the world of the series, titled Wynonna Earp: Tales from Purgatory.

The drama is also written by Andras and features members of the original series’ cast. It is produced in collaboration with SEVEN24 Films, Jacobs, Berger and U.S. podcast producer Wayland Productions.

Wynonna Earp: Tales from Purgatory will be released on Audible on Oct. 17.

Pluto TV

Pluto TV has inked a deal with CBC/Radio-Canada to extend the reach of its FAST newsfeeds in Canada.

The ad-supported streamer announced Wednesday (Sept. 11) that it will add four channels from CBC News and Radio-Canada to its Canadian platform in October: CBC News Explore, CBC News Toronto, CBC News British Columbia and Radio-Canada Info.

Pluto TV will also launch CNN International, CNN Fast and the Reuters FAST channel in several regions, with the latter two made available in Canada.

Thunderbird Distribution

Vancouver’s Thunderbird Distribution has snapped up media sales and consumer products rights to BeddyByes (52 x 11 minutes) on the heels of BBC Children’s and Education commissioning the latest series from Ireland’s JAM Media this summer.

Thunderbird will sell BeddyByes globally (excluding the U.K., Ireland, Denmark, Finland and Sweden; but CP rights will cover all territories worldwide) and is planning to pitch the CG-animated toon to buyers at MIPCOM next month. Its premise is all about helping toddlers and young preschoolers get used to the daily routines that culminate in going to bed. In each episode, protagonists MeMo and BaBa, who are also young children, lead viewers through playtime, mealtime, bath time and, finally, bedtime.

BeddyByes is slated to premiere in the U.K. on CBeebies and BBC iPlayer next spring. Ireland’s RTE is attached as a co-producer, and the series has also been presold to DR (Denmark), YLE (Finland) and SVT (Sweden).
