Montreal’s Yan England (Henry, pictured) is attached to direct the feature One Day Closer, based on the bestselling memoir from Lorinda Stewart.

Toronto prodco Candour Pictures announced on Sept. 6 that production on the film will begin in spring 2025 in Canada and Mauritius.

One Day Closer is based on Stewart’s memoir One Day Closer: A Mother’s Quest to Bring Her Kidnapped Daughter Home about her 460-day quest to free her daughter from captors in Somalia.

The screenplay is written by Jennifer Snow (The Recipe Files). Dan Reardon (Meet Cute) of Convergent Media will provide the financing. Candour Pictures co-founders Rebecca Lamarche and Myles Milne will produce.

“It’s been a dream of mine to see One Day Closer adapted into a film,” said Stewart in a statement. “I believe Yan and Jennifer will bring a new dimension to the story, and I can’t wait for audiences to experience it.”
