Corus Entertainment is shuffling its leadership team, adding SVP, advertising Barb McKergow (pictured left) as EVP and chief revenue officer Greg McLelland (pictured right) steps down.
The company announced Wednesday (Aug. 7) that it has eliminated McLelland’s role amid ongoing layoffs, with the executive stepping down as of Aug. 31.
Effective Sept. 1, McKergow will oversee the company’s advertising sales, revenue management, research, advanced advertising and data teams. She will report to co-CEO Troy Reeb.
“Succession planning is an integral part of our strategy and Barb is a longstanding and well-known leader who brings a wealth of experience and a passion for our products and our clients,” said Reeb in a statement. “This leadership change represents Corus’s commitment to investing in operations and areas that help our partners grow their business through our premium content and engaged audiences.”
McLelland has been with Corus for roughly two decades in various senior sales and advertising roles before assuming the title of EVP and CRO.
“Under Greg’s leadership, Corus has built industry-leading advertising solutions and developed an incredible unique selling proposition that drives results for clients. On industry boards, Greg has helped drive evolution in the way our industry measures and uses data. I want to thank Greg for his indelible contributions to Corus, championing our industry-leading brands and people,” said Reeb.
The news is the latest in cuts at Corus as the company seeks to right-size its business in the face of more than $1 billion in debt. Reeb and co-CEO said in a recent investor call that cost-cutting measures include laying off 25% of its workforce to “emerge as a smaller, but more profitable business.”
Among the recent cuts are layoffs at Nelvana, which saw the departure of Nelvana Studios VP Athena Georgaklis and a pause in the division’s development work.
Corus also confirmed this week it had sold its majority stake in Toronto prodco Aircraft Pictures back to its founders.
