The Black Academy has tapped 19-2 and Bel-Air actor Adrian Holmes to host its third edition of the Legacy Awards on CBC.
The Sept. 29 ceremony will return to Toronto venue History and be broadcast via CBC and CBC Gem at 8 p.m. ET. The awards are produced by Insight Productions.
“[Holmes] stands for everything we admire and want to celebrate: he’s hugely talented, an international star, a role model for our community, and an inspiration to young Black Canadians,” said the Black Academy co-founder Shamier Anderson in a statement.
The Legacy Awards are also bringing back the Fan Choice Digital Content Creator Award for a second year, with submissions opening today (Aug. 1). The award is determined by popular vote, and given to a Black-identifying digital content creator in Canada. It will be handed out during the ceremony.
Special awards recipients, performers and presenters will be announced at a later date.
The awards have also signed on CIBC and Intuit TurboTax as additional sponsors for the event, joining returning sponsors RBC, Telefilm Canada and Ontario Creates, according to the Black Academy co-founder Stephan James.
