Vancouver-headquartered OUTtv has commissioned short-form scripted drama, Novelette is Trying, for its streaming slate, in addition to a number of renewals.
Novelette is Trying (10 x 10 minutes) is created by Vancouver’s Giselle Miller and centres on a queer Black woman who confronts her issues with love and connection after taking in a quirky roommate. It is produced by Novelette is Trying Productions.
A total of five scripted and unscripted titles have been renewed for second seasons. Among them is Two Brothers (8 x 10 minutes; pictured), produced by Toronto’s Meikle Productions, which stars writer-director Andrew Meikle as one of two fraternal twin brothers who try to find self-acceptance in a small town.
We Three Queens (5 x 5 minutes) is written and produced by Michael Young of Toronto’s Tender Fruit Productions. It follows the exploits of a daycare worker, his escort and the elderly widow who lives with them.
Good Grief (6 x 15 minutes) hails from Nova Scotia-based prodco Pumpkin Patch Productions. The series, co-created by Katerina Bakolias and Amy Trefry, is about two women who form an unlikely bond at a bereavement group after losing their respective spouses.
Unscripted series Killjoy Comedy (6 x 20 minutes) is produced by B.C.’s Titular Productions and follows six comedians creating stand-up routines that veer away from old-school insults.
Finally, unscripted series My Drag is Valid (10 x 30 minutes), produced by L.A.-based Treyfid Rose Productions, sees drag star Disasterina interview various drag artists about their performances, looks and personalities.
