Toronto-headquartered 2SLGBTQIA+ media organization Pink Triangle Press will release the results of its Pink Papers research initiative at the 45th Banff World Media Festival (BANFF).
Recommendations and results of the 2024 PTP Pink Paper, supported by the Canada Media Fund and Telefilm Canada, will be shared on June 11 at the Banff, Alta. festival. It will be followed by a panel discussion with key industry members that will deep dive into the findings and ways to move forward.
The findings from the inaugural report will identify the “needs, gaps, systemic issues, and opportunities for 2SLGBTQIA+ professionals working in film, television, streaming and gaming in Canada,” according to a news release.
The research initiative was announced last November as an analysis of the representation of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in Canada’s media sector. The Pink Papers will cover English and French markets in Canada.
Pink Triangle Press is currently conducting a survey for professionals in film, TV, streaming and gaming to share their take on representation within the sector, with a deadline of April 30.
“The Canadian and international industry presence at BANFF, and its history of progressively recognizing that this industry has a role in important social and political conversations, makes it a natural partner for the release of this groundbreaking work,” said Pink Triangle Press CEO David Walberg in a statement.
“Narratives matter and every creative person who comes to BANFF knows the transformational power of storytelling,” added Jenn Kuzmyk, executive director of BANFF and VP, publisher of Playback. “We are in a challenging time for 2SLGBTQIA+ people politically. We are happy to engage in supporting and animating these important conversations that will help lead to more stories and more authentic representation of 2SLGBTQIA+ people in screen-based content.”
BANFF will run from June 9 to 12.
