The Canada Media Fund (CMF) and the Shaw Rocket Fund (SRF) have invested close to $3.7 million in seven projects through the CMF-SRF Kids Digital Animated Series Program.
The program supports the production of original short-form animated series that make use of new animation technology and have a multiplatform discoverability strategy. Four English-language titles were selected in this round, as well as two French-language, and one in both French and English.
Each series has been allocated $525,000. The CMF is providing two-thirds of the sum and the SRF the other third, according to a news release.
The English-language projects include two from British Columbia: Peg Pals from Imagine Create Media and Magic Sash from Hammer & Sash Digital Media. Milkcow Media’s Polly Can Do and Moonshot Rights’ Dance With Thickety are from Ontario and Nova Scotia, respectively.
The remaining three projects hail from Quebec, including the French-language series Académie des Monarques (Butterfly Academy) from Les productions Carpediem and Savais-tu? from Happy Camper Média, and Divertissement EW’s dual-language series Guiby.
The CMF and the SRF have invested more than $23 million in 50 animated series since launching the CMF-SRF Kids Digital Animated Series Program in 2018.
