Le Successeur crosses $1 million at Quebec box office

The Canada-France-Belgium copro is directed and co-written by Xavier Legrand.

Director Xavier Legrand’s Le Successeur has crossed the $1 million milestone at the Quebec box office.

The psychological thriller, co-written by Legrand and Dominick Parenteau-Lebeuf, is the first Quebec production to reach the million dollar mark this year, according to distributor Entract Films, which cited data from Comscore. The film has grossed $1,002,650 as of March 25.

Le Successeur is coproduced by Montreal’s Metafilms, France’s KG Productions and Belgium’s Stenola Productions. Alexandre Gavras, Sylvain Corbeil, Anton Iffland Stettner and Eva Kuperman are producers.

Starring Marc-André Grondin, the film centres on the artistic director of a famous French fashion house who returns home to Montreal following the death of his father and inherits much more than he bargained for. The cast also includes Dominique Yves Jacques, Janie Laëtitia Isambert, Mina Anne-Elisabeth Bossé and Judith Blandine Bury.

The film is produced with the financial participation of SODEC, Telefilm Canada, Radio-Canada and Crave, as well as provincial and federal tax credits.

Le Successeur has been sold to more than 60 countries around the world, including Italy, Korea, India and Ukraine. mk2 films is handling international sales for the film.
