Radio-Canada names Sophie Morasse as GM of television

Morasse had been serving in the role in an interim capacity since October 2023.

Sophie Morasse has been appointed as general manager of television at Radio-Canada.

Morasse had been serving in the role in an interim capacity since October 2023. The appointment, announced by Radio-Canada EVP Dany Meloul on Wednesday (March 13), was “made after a thorough selection process conducted by an executive search firm,” according to a news release.

The role was previously held by Meloul, who became interim EVP last October before taking it over permanently in January.

Prior to taking on the interim role, Morasse was senior director of arts, variety and factual programming. She has been managing original productions for specialty channels Ici ARTV and Ici Explora since 2020.

Morasse has held public broadcasting roles since 2014, beginning with Télé-Québec and then moving to Radio-Canada in 2016. She began her three-decade career as a director and producer.

“As head of Radio-Canada’s arts, variety and factual programming unit, Sophie shone in her ability to generate original, innovative projects, all while galvanizing our in-house teams and producer partners around an inspiring vision,” said Meloul in a statement. “It was thanks to her efforts that we managed to keep our productions running during the COVID-19 pandemic and, as a result, many of our top shows on air. I am confident that she has what it takes to maintain and build on our special relationship with audiences.”
