Days before Halifax-born director and producer Ben Proudfoot accepted his Oscar for The Last Repair Shop, he joined his fellow Canadian nominees at Canada’s House to celebrate their achievements.
The March 7 reception was hosted by the Consul General of Canada in Los Angeles and Telefilm Canada, in collaboration with the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) and the Talent Fund.
Proudfoot and co-director Kris Bowers won the Oscar for Documentary Short Film during the 96th Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday (March 10). The night marked Proudfoot’s second Oscar win in the same category, accepting the honour in 2022 for The Queen of Basketball.
Among the attendees at the reception were Nisha Pahuja, who directed Documentary Feature nominee To Kill a Tiger, alongside producers Cornelia Principe and David Oppenheim; Vincent Réné-Lortie, director of Live Action Short nominee Invincible, as well as producer Samuel Caron; and Troy Quane, director of Animated Feature nominee Nimona, alongside producer Julie Zackary.
