IDA names Ina Fichman, Michael Turner as board co-presidents

Montreal-based producer Fichman and Netflix's Turner will work with the organization to advocate for global documentary filmmakers.

The International Documentary Association (IDA) has named Ina Fichman and Michael Turner as co-presidents of the board.

The IDEA announced the appointments on Wednesday (Jan. 17), with outgoing co-presidents Grace Lee and Chris Perez to continue to serve as board members for the Los Angeles-based body.

Ina Fichman is founder and president of Montreal-based Intuitive Pictures, with credits that include the Oscar-nominated Fire of Love, as well as Once Upon a Sea, The Oslo Diaries, The Wanted 18 and The Gig is Up. This March, Fichman’s film Adrianne & The Castle will have its world premiere at SXSW.

Fishman also sits on the board of the Hot Docs Film Festival and co-chairs the national board of the Documentary Organization of Canada (DOC).

Michael Turner serves as senior director and head of original documentary films at Netflix, managing business and legal affairs for the streamer’s doc features.

Disney Branded Television’s Chris Albert has been named as the IDA executive committee secretary, while Iguana Films founder Maria Agui-Carter becomes the organization’s treasurer.

“I am excited to welcome Ina, Michael, Chris and Maria to the IDA executive committee at the start of my tenure,” said IDA’s new executive director, Dominic Asmall Willsdon, in a statement. “They are all influential leaders in the documentary field, and we are grateful for their commitment to IDA’s mission and community. Together with staff and the rest of the board, we will continue to advocate for and support the vital work of documentary filmmakers internationally.”
