Telefilm Canada has provided an investment of $220,000 to 26 small and/or emerging film festivals in the 2023-24 round of its General Admission Festivals Program.
In total, the program has invested $535,000 into 57 film festivals aimed at the general public, with the first round of recipients announced last July.
Festivals selected for the second round include the 2024 editions of the DOXA Documentary Film Festival; image+nation. festival courts queer short film fest; Blue Mountain Film Festival; Weengushk International Film Festival; and Reel 2 Real International Film Festival.
Also included were the Short Circuit Pacific Rim Film Festival; African Movie Festival in Manitoba; Animation Festival of Halifax; Calgary Underground Film Festival; and Festival Émergence de Montréal. The full list of recipients are available on the Telefilm website.
Each applicant must have its head office in Canada; work in the film, television or digital media sectors; and have had at least two editions before applying for funding. Overall, Telefilm received a total of 79 eligible applications during the fiscal year, according to a news release.
