Dany Meloul tapped as EVP of Radio-Canada

Meloul has been in the role on an interim basis since former EVP Michel Bissonnette departed the public broadcaster last October.

Dany Meloul has been appointed as EVP of Radio-Canada.

The former general manager, television has held the role — which oversees CBC/Radio-Canada’s French services — on an interim basis since the departure of former EVP Michel Bissonnette on Oct. 3, 2023.

Prior to joining Radio-Canada in 2019, Meloul spent more than a decade at Bell Media, where she worked her way up to the role of VP, programming for French-language TV. She also worked in legal and regulatory affairs for Astral Media.

CBC/Radio-Canada president and CEO Catherine Tait said Meloul’s promotion “comes at a critical moment for Radio-Canada as our industry faces profound challenges and as we work together to position the public broadcaster for the future,” in a statement.

“In addition to knowing our organization, our brands and our content very well, Dany has a long track record in the media sector. She has a deep knowledge of our industry in a context where business models are being disrupted by increased competition from the digital giants and as francophone audiences’ media habits change,” said Tait.

CBC/Radio-Canada is in the process of cutting roughly 600 jobs, after announcing it needs to make up a shortfall of approximately $125 million in the budget. The cuts include $40 million in reduced content spend across its English- and French-language channels.

A spokesperson for the pubcaster confirmed to Playback Daily that the process to lay off a number of employees is underway, but it will not confirm the identities of any of the individuals impacted.
