LaRue Entertainment taps Jay Carolyn Wu to lead development

The former Bell Media development executive has been appointed as the Toronto prodco's head of development.

Toronto’s LaRue Entertainment has appointed Jay Carolyn Wu as head of development.

Wu is a former development executive at Bell Media (Crave and CTV) with a background in original comedy and drama scripted series. They joined LaRue in August as a development executive, and are now tasked to lead creative and talent development across comedy, drama and documentary at the company.

As head of development, Wu will curate LaRue’s content from diverse voices, overseeing new and ongoing development projects under co-presidents Matt King and Andrew Ferguson. The prodco aims to focus on long-format content in 2024 and beyond, with Wu leading the charge in finding exciting new talent, said the release.

Wu’s experience at Bell Media includes shows such as The Spencer Sisters and Sullivan’s Crossing. Wu also spearheaded the first-ever BIPOC-only cohort at the Canadian Film Centre’s Primetime TV Program, according to a news release. Their upcoming feature, Yo We’re Dying, was recently selected for Telefilm’s Talent to Watch.

LaRue, known for award-winning short-form projects like The Amazing Gayl Pile, recently rolled out Someone Lives Here, a documentary about carpenter Khaleel Seivwright’s efforts to build shelters during the pandemic. The company also recently released the first-ever Crave original sketch comedy series, The Dessert.
