Two scripted comedy series from Boat Rocker have been added to Paramount+ Canada’s development slate.
Bensen, created and written by Clara Altimas (Kim’s Convenience, Off Kilter), is a dramedy about a limo driver who “tries to maintain fun dad status” after his wife’s death; Elected, created by Michael McGowan (All My Puny Sorrows), follows an A-list actor who unexpectedly has an opportunity to become the Prime Minister of Canada.
Boat Rocker’s David Fortier (pictured left), Ivan Schneeberg (pictured right) and Kerry Appleyard are executive producers on both series, with Altimas and McGowan also attached as EPs on their respective titles.
“Bensen and Elected [are] two vastly different, but equally compelling comedy series that are wonderfully unexpected and resonant,” said Appleyard, Boat Rocker Studios’ SVP, head of scripted Canada, in a statement.
“Boat Rocker’s reputation is synonymous with excellence,” said Doug Smith, SVP streaming and content licensing at Paramount Global, Canada, in a state.
The two new development titles come after Paramount+ unveiled its initial Canadian originals slate in June. The other titles currently in development include Hate The Player: The Ben Johnson Story (New Metric Media) from Anthony W. Farrell; Len & Cub (Muse Entertainment, Page Boy Productions) from Lynne Kamm; Carpe Demon (December Films, Cineflix Studios) from Emily Andras; and They Drive At Night (Black Birds Entertainment) from Craig Wallace.
