Sinking Ship Entertainment’s hybrid live action and CGI kids series Jane (pictured) has racked up five children’s Emmy nominations.
The Children’s and Family Emmy Awards were launched in 2022 to establish a dedicated awards show for the children and family content categories separate from the Daytime Emmy Awards. The ceremony date for the second edition has yet to be announced.
The Apple TV+ original series, produced by Toronto’s Sinking Ship and the Jane Goodall Institute, is among a host of Canadian titles up for the Children’s and Family Emmy Awards, which announced the full list of nominees on Friday (Nov. 3).
Jane, inspired by the life and work of Dr. Jane Goodall, is created and executive produced by Sinking Ship’s J.J. Johnson, who is also an executive producer alongside Christin Simms, Blair Powers, Matt Bishop and the Jane Goodall Institute’s Andria Teather.
The series has been nominated for the Children’s or Family Viewing Series award and Writing for a Preschool or Children’s Live Action Program, and also received nods for Cinematography For a Single Camera Live Action Program, Lighting Camera and Techical Arts, and Visual Effects For A Live Action Program.
Sinking Ship’s Odd Squad, produced with Fred Rogers Productions for PBS Kids and TVOKids, has also scored a nomination for Hairstyling and Makeup.
WildBrain’s Malory Towers has picked up four nominations, including Children’s or Family Viewing Series. The BYUtv series is coproduced by WildBrain and U.K. prodco King Bert Productions. It also earned a nod for Lead Performance in a Preschool or Children’s or Young Teen Program for Ella Bright. The series was first ordered by WildBrain’s Family Channel and U.K.’s CBBC in 2019.
Snoopy Presents: Lucy’s School, produced by WildBrain and Peanuts for Apple TV+ was nominated for Animated Special.
Unscripted competition series All-round Champion (marblemedia) has picked up two nominations. The series, produced for TVO and BYUtv in the U.S., is up for the Non-fiction Program award and also earned a nod for Casting for a Live Action Program.
Also among the Canadian titles is Pinecone & Pony, produced by Toronto’s First Generation Films and Dreamworks Animation. The series has earned a Younger Voice Performance in a Preschool, Children’s or Young Teen Program nomination for Maria Nash.
The list of nominees also includes two 9 Story Media Group titles: the live-action series A Kind of Spark for BYUtv for casting, and Netflix’s Karma’s World for writing.
The animated series Molly of Denali, coproduced by Vancouver’s Atomic Cartoons and WGBH Boston for PBS Kids, also earned a writing nomination.
