Wildling Pictures, Adam Yorke developing Canadian spy film

The Toronto prodco has optioned the history book Cracking the Nazi Code, about the untold story of Canadian spy Winthrop Bell.

Wildling Pictures is diving into Canadian espionage history with its latest book option.

The Toronto prodco has optioned New Brunswick-based author Jason Bell’s non-fiction book Cracking the Nazi Code: The Untold Story of Canada’s Greatest Spy, which recounts the espionage career of Halifax’s Winthrop Bell, who operated as an MI6 agent and provided critical early intelligence regarding the Second World War.

The book was published by HarperCollins in Canada on Sept. 26, and in the U.K. on Oct. 26. Pegasus Books will launch the book in the U.S. on April 30, 2024, according to a news release.

Wildling has brought on See For Me co-writer Adam Yorke to adapt Bell’s book into a feature film, and is currently seeking partners for the project, according to a statement from the prodco’s president Matt Code.

“We were drawn to the book by the opportunity to tell a Canadian spy story, and thrilled to find a story spanning multiple decades and unravelling little known parts of history both in Canada and the world,” said Code.

Yorke is represented by The Characters Talent Agency and Heroes and Villains Entertainment.
