The full list of speakers for the Playback Film Summit have been unveiled, with industry sessions spanning Bill C-11, the state of film financing and feature film case studies.
The third annual virtual Playback Film Summit kicks off next week with a panel discussion on the potential impact a modernized Broadcasting Act could have on the indie film industry, moderated by Elevation Pictures co-president Noah Segal.
The panelists include Kyle Irving, co-owner and executive producer at Eagle Vision; KarmaFilm producer Anand Ramayya; and Tonya Williams, founder and executive director of the Reelworld Foundation.
The second panel will deep dive into the current financing landscape in Canada, featuring Adani Pictures producer Jessica Adams; Devonshire Productions owner Paula Devonshire; Freddie Films president Floyd Kane; and J.C. Mills, president and head of content at Cineflix Productions. The panel will be moderated by Playback editor Kelly Townsend.
The Playback Film Summit will also feature sessions on two feature films, Fawzia Mirza’s The Queen of My Dreams and Zarrar Khan’s In Flames.
The case study on The Queen of My Dreams will include Mirza, alongside producers Jason Levangie of Shut Up & Colour Pictures and Andria Wilson Mirza of Baby Daal Productions. It will also be moderated by Townsend.
The session on In Flames is a partner presentation with Telefilm Canada, outlining the film’s path as a Talent to Watch selection to the Cannes Film Festival’s Directors Fortnight program. Khan and producer Anam Abbas will take part in a discussion with producer Shehrezade Mian of Markhor Pictures, who is also an alum of Talent to Watch.
The Playback Film Summit will take place on Oct. 24 and 25. The full list of speakers and buyers is available on the event website.
