Cineflix Rights has secured new deals for the horror-comedy series Reginald the Vampire at MIPCOM.
Reginald the Vampire, produced by Great Pacific Media, Modern Story, December Films, and Cineflix Studios for NBCUniversal’s linear U.S. channel Syfy, is among two other titles the Cineflix Media-owned distributor closed deals for, including the feature Sugar and the series Last King of the Cross.
NBC Universal International Networks has acquired season two of Reginald the Vampire for France, Iberia, Central and Eastern Europe, German-speaking Europe and the U.K., along with Sky (U.K.) and French network M6’s 6Play streaming platform. As previously announced in June, Bell Media acquired seasons one and two of the series to make CTV Sci-Fi Channel to exclusive home for the series in Canada.
Reginald the Vampire, inspired by Johnny B. Truant’s Fat Vampire novels and starring Jacob Batalon, is a fresh spin on the traditional vampire stories.
The feature thriller Sugar, produced by Montreal-based prodco Connect3 Media and Vancouver-based Sepia Films has been picked up by Lifetime in the U.S. and Paramount+ in the U.K. The film follows the story of two Canadian influencers whose dream trip turns into a nightmare when they become entangled in a deadly drug smuggling operation.
Paramount+ in Canada has acquired season two of the Australian crime drama Last King of The Cross (Helium Pictures) The series is an autobiographical take on famed nightclub mogul John Ibrahim.
“Alongside working with producers to develop and launch new dramas, building successful scripted franchises is a key part of our strategy,” said James Durie, head of scripted at Cineflix Rights, in a statement. “We’re also building a sizeable movie and feature business with thrillers like Sugar continuing to perform well internationally.”
