Cineflix-backed Montreal prodco Connect3 Media (C3 Media) has appointed Jason Simms to the newly created role of managing director as it looks to ramp up its scripted and unscripted slate for the global market.
Simms will assume the role in early November and work closely with C3’s president Pablo Salzman, according to a news release.
He will be responsible for expanding the company’s slate, working in partnership with creatives, existing IP rights holders, and commissioning executives around the world to identify and develop new content by tapping into a range of financing models, including international coproductions and presales, said the release.
Simms joins C3 from U.K.-based broadcaster Sky’s production company Sky Studios, where he served as director, international scripted programming. In his role at the studio, he oversaw international partnerships and commercial strategy for the company’s slate of dramas and comedies from the U.K., Italy and Germany.
Previous roles include director of drama and comedy for Sky’s distribution arm, Sky Vision, and SVP, global acquisitions, Fox Network Group, where he closed deals for series such as The Walking Dead, Dexter, The Wire, and Breaking Bad, added the release.
“C3’s success is built on bringing together talented creative people to develop, finance, and produce successful shows for the global market,” said Salzman in a statement. “Jason’s experience, skills and personality fit right into this model, and his joining the team will expand the business and help greenlight more fantastic content.”
The Montreal prodco’s recent projects include the upcoming series So Long, Marianne for Crave and Norwegian broadcaster NRK, which is inspired by the love story of Leonard Cohen and Marianne Ihlen. The series is coproduced by C3 and NRK.
Other recent titles include the dramedy series Good Morning Chuck (and The Art of Harm Reduction) and the doc Around the World with 30 Kilos, both for Crave.
