Spin Master Entertainment’s furry franchise PAW Patrol won the North American box office over the weekend, with PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie earning more than US$22 million domestically, says Canadian distributor Elevation Pictures.
The film earned an estimated US$46.1 million internationally, according to Comscore, which said the film debuted in about 45 global markets.
PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie earned $1.9 million in Canada, according to Elevation, and made up approximately 8.6% of the total North American box office. The film is distributed by Paramount Pictures in the U.S.
Noah Segal, co-president of Elevation, said in a statement that the film opened on more than 400 screens in Canada, “which was a record-breaking screen count for a Canadian film.” Elevation also claims that the film is the “largest opening for a Canadian film in the North American box office in the past ten years.” The 2021 film PAW Patrol: The Movie earned more than US$144 million globally.
“We chose a traditional theatrical approach for the first film, which led to results that were double the normal Canadian percentage on a film like this. Alongside our partners Paramount and Spin Master, we were confident that audiences would be eager for the second film in the franchise,” said Segal.
PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie is directed by Montreal’s Cal Brunker, who co-wrote the script with Kitchener, Ont.-born Bob Barlen, based on a story from Brunker, Barlen and Frozen scribe Shane Morris. It is produced by Spin Master’s Jennifer Dodge, Laura Clunie and Toni Stevens, in association with Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies.
Executive producers on the film are Spin Master’s Ronnen Harary and Adam Beder, as well as Peter Schlessel.
