Brunico Communications has appointed Kelly Townsend as editor of Playback, effective immediately.
Townsend, who has been serving as the publication’s news editor since last June, will report to Jenn Kuzmyk, VP and publisher, Playback and executive director, Banff World Media Festival.
She will be based in Brunico’s office in Toronto and will oversee the editorial direction for Playback‘s digital and print publications and events, including the Playback Film Summit.
Townsend, who joined Playback in 2018, has close to a decade of experience covering Canadian entertainment and B2B news. Prior to joining the publication, she held roles at TV Junkies from 2014 to 2018, first serving as a contributor and then associate editor.
From 2015 to 2017, she held roles in the editorial, marketing and communication departments at B2B publisher Dovetail Communications.
Townsend has a bachelor’s degree in English from York University and is a graduate of Humber College’s journalism program.
“Kelly is an intuitive and seasoned industry journalist. Playback is fortunate to have her taking over the editorial helm,” said Kuzmyk. “Kelly has guided Playback’s daily news with keen expertise across film and TV production, policy, financing and industry issues. She has championed important special reports such as 10 to Watch and the Indie List and is dedicated to supporting inclusion and diversity within the Canadian film and TV sector. We’re excited to see her vision for both our print and online publications, and can’t wait to see where she takes Playback next.”
