Boat Rocker Media is seeking a new home for scripted comedy series Slip after it was pulled from the Roku Channel this week.
Created by star Zoe Lister-Jones, Slip is one of dozens of titles that have been removed from the AVOD platform as part of the company’s cost-cutting measures.
Ivan Schneeberg and David Fortier, co-executive chairmen of Boat Rocker Media and co-chairmen of Boat Rocker Studios, confirmed the news in a joint statement, noting that the studio and series prodco TeaTime Pictures “are confident that we’ll find a great new domestic home for this ground-breaking series.”
“Critically acclaimed, heartfelt, hilarious, and completely unique, Slip has only begun to spark the imaginations and bend the minds of audiences around the world,” the statement continued. “We’re incredibly proud of this series and are in awe of Zoe Lister-Jones’ talent.”
Slip is produced by Dakota Johnson’s banner TeaTime Pictures, with Boat Rocker Studios serving as the studio. Executive producers include TeaTime’s Johnson, Ro Donnelly and Katie O’Connell, as well as Schneeberg, Fortier and Nick Nantell. Boat Rocker holds international distribution rights to the series.
Roku made headlines this week when an SEC filing that was made public on Wednesday (Sept. 6) confirmed that the company would be laying off approximately 10% of its workforce and pulling numerous titles from its platform. According to the filing, Roku anticipates an estimated impairment charge of between US$55 million to US$65 million “related to removing select existing licensed and produced content from company-operated services on its TV streaming platform.”
A spokesperson for Roku declined to comment on the layoffs or the content removed from the Roku Channel.
In addition to Slip, other titles that are reportedly being pulled from the platform are Quibi acquisitions such as the revival of Reno 911!, Dummy and Cup of Joe.
