TIFF to world premiere Lil Nas X documentary

Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero follows the Grammy-winning rapper's first world tour.

The 2023 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) will host the world premiere of Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero, a new documentary about groundbreaking rapper Lil Nas X, with the artist set to be in attendance.

Shot over 60 days of the Grammy-winning rapper’s first world tour, the intimate doc follows Lil Nas X (a.k.a. Montero Hill) on an emotional journey through the creation and performance of his “Long Live Montero” live show.

The film sees Lil Nas X navigate identity, family, expectations and acceptance, all while reflecting on his place within the lineage of Black and queer artists. The artist is best known for his 2019 collab hit with country star Billy Ray Cyrus, “Old Town Road,” which became the longest-running No. 1 single in Billboard Hot 100 history.

Lil Nas X: Long Live Montero is directed by Carlos López Estrada (Blindspotting, Raya and the Last Dragon) and cinematographer Zac Manuel (I Am Vanessa Guillen), and produced by RadicalMedia, in association with Sony Music Entertainment’s Premium Content Division, Columbia Records, and Museum & Crane.

Dave Sirulnick serves as producer along with Caryn Capotosto for Museum & Crane, Saul Levitz for Sony Music, Adam Leber and Adriana Arce for Rebel, and Gee Roberson for BPG/Maverick. Meredith Bennett, Jon Kamen and Frank Scherma are executive producers for RadicalMedia, with Tom Mackay and Krista Wegener executive producing for Sony Music. Wegener is also leading global sales for the film.
