SODEC selects 13 documentaries for production funding

The assistance program provides support for original medium- to feature-length docs.

The Société de Développement des Entreprises Culturelles (SODEC) has selected 13 documentaries for funding under its production assistance program.

The program component is geared toward original medium- and feature-length documentaries. A total of 28 projects were submitted to the program this round, according to the Quebec government agency.

Les Films du 3 Mars is the distributor for three of the selected projects. They include Esprits rebelles (Fauve Film) from writer-director Marlene Edoyan, Intercepted (Cosmos Films) from writer-director Oksana Karpovych, and L’athlète (Trio Orange) from writer-director Marie-Claude Fournier.

Télé-Québec is the broadcaster for Adonis (Extérieur Jour), from writer-director Jérémie Battaglia and writer Marie-Josée Cardinal; and Matimekush (Magasin Général) from writer-director Guillaume Sylvestre.

CBC/Radio-Canada channels are attached to another two projects: Radio-Canada’s RDI is the broadcaster for Les héritiers de Bernie Sanders (Téléfiction), from writer-director Mathieu Vachon and writers Samuel Gervais and Diane Bérard; meanwhile, CBC’s documentary Channel is the broadcaster for The Prophet of Ecstasy (Laurus Productions) from writer-director Karen Cho, director Elias C.Varoutsos, and writers Charles Beaudette and Lori Braun, with Noble Arts attached as a distributor.

Quebec-based streamer Natyf TV is attached to Kout ke kout (Quatre par Quatre Films, Loaded Pictures) from writer-director Joseph Hillel, with K-Films Amérique attached as the distributor.

Maison 4:3 is the distributor for Ces liens que nous ne voyons pas (Terre Innue) from writer-director Kim O’Bomsawin and writer Mathieu Fournier; Filmoption International will distribute All That The Walls Can Hold (Entre deux mondes) from writer-director Danae Elon and writer Tony Asimakopoulos; and film cooperative Spira will distribute Les blues du bleuet (Les Glaneuses) from writer-director Andrés Livov-Macklin.

Rounding out the selections are Shifting Baselines (Greenground Productions) from writer-director Julien Elie, with Acéphale attached as distributor; and Mon Maurice à moi from writer-director Serge Giguère, with Rapide-Blanc serving as producer and distributor.
