Canadian officials prep B2B program for SXSW Sydney

Canadian Heritage and Global Affairs Canada are bringing a select number of Canadian prodcos to network with Australian buyers at the inaugural event.

The Department of Canadian Heritage and Global Affairs Canada are setting up a tailored B2B program at the inaugural SXSW Sydney event for domestic production companies.

The Australian conference and festival is set to run Oct. 12 to 22. The Consulate General of Canada in Sydney, in collaboration with Telefilm Canada and Invest in Canada, will be hosting the event’s Canada House. The pavilion will host activities over three days, from Oct. 18 to 20.

Canadian Heritage, in collaboration with Global Affairs Canada Trade Commissioner Service in Sydney, is recruiting a delegation of up to 10 Canadian media companies to participate. Eligible companies should preferably have a keen interest in the Australian market, according to the call for applicants. The deadline to apply is Aug. 15, and those selected to participate will be notified by Aug.23.

Delegate companies will particpate in tailored B2B meetings with Australian buyers, panel discussions and networking events. The prodcos could also get the opportunity to present their projects at the Canada House, according to Canadian Heritage.

The program marks the latest market opportunity between the Australian and Canadian screen industries. Late last year CBC and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation renewed their Memorandum of Understanding, which was initially signed in June 2019 at the Banff World Media Festival.
