The Quebecor Fund has selected projects by Cinémaginaire and Sphère Média for funding under its Film Production Assistance Program.
Cinémaginaire’s musical drama Les belles-soeurs, and Sphère Média’s 1994-95 will receive a total of $426,000 in production support.
Les belles-soeurs, directed and written by René Richard Cyr and adapted from Michel Tremblay’s 1965 play, follows the story of a Montréal housewife who wins a million GoldStar stamps and throws a stamp-gluing party so she can redeem them. The film is distributed by TVA Films.
1994-95 is written and directed by Ricardo Trogi, with Immina Films attached as distributor. It centres on a struggling artist whose hopes are revived after he receives a call from Radio-Canada.
Quebecor Fund has also allocated $300,000 to Fair Play International and Saturday Originals under its Export Assistance Program. The Fund’s partner, the Canada Media Fund (CMF), has invested an additional $300,000 under the program which supports initiatives by funding the development of audiovisual content adapted for non-Québec and international markets.
The Quebecor Fund’s Film Production Assistance Program has allocated a total of more than $18.2 million to 109 projects since it was launched in September 2010. The Export Assistance Program has invested more than $11.2 million in 50 export business models with 31 partner companies since 2014, and the Fund’s partner, the CMF, has invested an additional $3.6 million since 2017.
