The Société de développement des entreprises culturelle (SODEC) has selected 23 fiction and documentary productions for its development assistance program.

The SODEC program’s objective is to support the development of original projects from Quebec with domestic and international market potential. The selected projects, which include eight documentaries and 15 scripted features, were chosen from a pool of 56 eligible applicants, according to a news release.

Among the scripted selections, seven are drama films: writer Catherine Léger’s Filles publiques (Vieille Amérique), Patrice Laliberté’s Aubade (Couronne Nord), Alliah Fafin’s Entre nous deux (Yzanakio), Isabelle Hayeur’s Géantes (EMAfilms), Florence Longpré’s Letter from a Stranger (Max Films), Tristan Dubois’s Valcartier 1974 (Also Productions), and Trevor Anderson’s Goodbye Forever (Vlimeuse Productions).

Another five scripted titles are comedy features: India Desjardins’ Hantée (A Média), Pierre-Yves Bernard and Claude Legault’s Dans une galaxie près de chez vous – volet III (Téléfiction, Zone3), Jean-Philippe Baril-Guérard and Suzie Bouchard’s Et si on se quittait? (KO24), Seydou-Junior Haïdara and Jimmy Larouche’s Les géants du lac (Babel Films, Les Films du Lac), and Dominic James Bergeron, Christine Doyon and Jean-Paul Eid’s Le petit astronaute (La Fête Content & Concept).

Rounding out the scripted selections are Olivier Labonté LeMoyne’s horror-fantasy feature Les hôtes (UGO Media); the action thriller Maple (Chasseurs Films), by Marie-Ève Belleau Bérubé and Anh Minh Truong; and sci-fi film Sous le portail du parc (Les Films Rôdeurs), from Paul Chotel and Omar Elhamy.

The eight doc features selected for the SODEC program are Denys Desjardins’ À la poursuite du monde (Centaure Films), Carlos Ferrand’s L’aventurine (Franc doc), Nadine Gomez’s Cancun, le nid du serpent (Les Films de l’Autre), Guillaume Lévesque’s Gaspésie recherche prêtre africain (Tapis Rouge Films), Tamás Wormser’s Le regard de mon père (Artesian Films), Jean-Pierre Gariépy’s Ludivine (Les Films de l’Isle), David Simard’s The Last Battle (Bunbury Films), and Ève Lamont’s To Be Free (Camera Oscura Films).
