Martin Matte leads TVA’s new 2023-24 programming

Quebecor has also commissioned a new drama from Amalga that it hopes will be a suitable follow-up to L'Échappée.

Quebecor has revealed its 2023-24 programming lineup, and while the most notable parts may be the return of Quebec’s most-watched competition shows, the company’s slate also include two new titles it has high hopes for.

The new programming for TVA is led by a talk show hosted by comedian Martin Matte, with a 10-episode first season produced by Encore Télévision that will count actor Patrick Huard (Bon Cop, Bad Cop) among its guests.

Quebecor is aiming for Mattee’s “cross-generational appeal” to attract viewers in both the 18 to 34 and 25 to 54 demos. Matte’s sitcom, Les beaux malaises, had an average of 1.7 million viewers for its three seasons from 2014 to 2016.

On the drama front, Sorcières will aim to fill the hole left by L’Échappée, which had its series finale in March. Both titles are produced by Montreal’s Amalga.

Sorcières stars Céline Bonnier, Marie-Joanne Boucher and Noémie O’Farrell as three sisters who have been estranged since leaving the commune their father founded, but reunite after a baby is found abandoned in their home community.

TVA’s returning titles are led by its unscripted slate of unscripted shows, which make up some of Quebec’s most popular programming, each regularly drawing in an AMA of more than one million viewers. Chanteurs masqués (the French adaptation of The Masked Singer), singing competition La Voix and Sortez-moi d’ici! (an adaptation of I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!) — all produced by Productions Déferlantes — as well as dance competition Révolution (Fair-Play) will all return for new seasons.

In dramas, Indéfendable (Pixcom) will return, coming off of a season where it drew an average audience of 1.5 million viewers, with a reach of close to 3.1 million people. Other dramas returning include Alertes (Pixcom) and Encore Télévision-produced titles Les moments parfaits and Les bracelets rouges.
