Sort Of, Magical Caresses among Rockie international winners

BANFF's Rockie Awards International Program Competition had several Canadian winners.

CBC’s Sort Of (Sphere Media), CBC Gem’s The Big Sex Talk (Noble Television) and the National Film Board of Canada’s (NFB) Magical Caresses were among Canadian winners as the Banff World Media Festival (BANFF) announced the results of the 2023 Rockie Awards International Program Competition.

The competition featured 141 nominations from 29 countries including the U.K., U.S., Canada, Australia, France, Germany, Italy and Norway. The competition was juried by a panel of 150 senior international industry professionals, according to a news release.

The winner of the Grand Jury Prize will be selected from the top-scoring programs across the entire field of nominees.

Sort Of (pictured) won the $25,000 Rogers Prize for Excellence in Canadian Content.

Magical Caresses won for Best Short Non-Fiction Program and also brought director and screenwriter Lori Malepart-Traversy the Emerging Talent Prize of $10,000.

The Big Sex Talk won for the Best Lifestyle Program, and Eternal Spring (Lofty Sky Pictures) and the Canada-U.K. copro Affairs of the Art (Beryl Productions/NFB) won for Best Social Issues & Current Affairs Program and Best Short Fiction Program.

Geomapping Love (Géolocaliser l’amour) (V10 Média, Bell Fund, ICI.TOU.TV, HG Distribution) won the Prix Francophone for the top French-language production.
