Vancouver-headquartered Thunderbird Entertainment Group has unveiled a new banner for its consumer products operations.
Thunderbird Brands is led by Richard Goldsmith, Thunderbird president of global distribution and consumer products, and will help the company further grow its licensing business, according to a news release.
The change means Thunderbird’s previously titled Distribution and Consumer Products division, established in 2021, is now split into two: Thunderbird Brands and Thunderbird Distribution, a company spokesperson tells Playback Daily. Goldsmith oversees both divisions.
Thunderbird Brands will make its industry debut at Licensing Expo in Las Vegas from June 13 to 15, where it will present four key properties/brands to potential partners.
Those properties include animated adventure-comedy Mermicorno: Starfall, which was created and produced by Atomic Cartoons in partnership with tokidoki, and was acquired by Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max; and preschool series Mittens and Pants (pictured), which is produced by Windy Isle Entertainment and commissioned by CBC Kids in Canada and Sky Kids in the U.K.
The other properties are The Last Kids on Earth, which is based on Max Brallier’s book series and the Atomic Cartoons Netflix series of the same name, and has several ancillary extensions; and Thunderbird-owned Great Pacific Media’s documentary series Highway Thru Hell.
Thunderbird Entertainment’s content “generates significant brand awareness” and presents “a unique opportunity to market products to our fans, such as toys and apparel, and new content like books, video games, live entertainment and recorded music that will extend the franchises,” said Goldsmith in a statement.
“Looking at our pipeline over the next few years, we are very excited about the opportunities for this key growth vertical for our company.”
The other content arms at the production, distribution and rights management company include Thunderbird Kids and Family (Atomic Cartoons), Thunderbird Unscripted (Great Pacific Media) and Thunderbird Scripted.
