Vancouver-based LGBTQ+ network OUTtv has commissioned two new original titles, including a short-form comedy series and a documentary, and renewed six more as part of its spring slate.
The new commissions include the scripted dramedy We Three Queens (5 x 5 minutes), which is produced by Thomas Rees and Michael Young of Toronto and “follows two young queers and a scrappy older woman living together,” according to a news release issued Thursday (May 18).
The other new project is I Work From Home for the service’s OUTspoken slate of unscripted content. Produced by Toronto prodco Border2Border Entertainment, the hour-long documentary is described as an exploration of “how sites like OnlyFans have destabilized the traditional production, distribution and monetization of X-rated entertainment.”
OUTtv has also acquired The Gold Rush (8 x 45-60 minutes), a weekly U.K. competition series for drag performers produced by Trash TV.
The renewal lineup includes two other Border2Border productions: the docuseries Drag Heals (8x 30 minutes) and the elimination-style competition series Dating Unlocked (6 x 20 minutes), which are returning for seasons four and two, respectively.
The 6 x 30-minute docuseries Behind the Drag Queen of the Year Pageant Competition Award Contest Competition (PEG Productions), the comedy series Dr. Jackie (Producer Entertainment Group), and the comedy-drama series Sugar Highs (2 Greedy Pictures), are all getting a second season.
Additionally, the docuseries Pride (We Demand Productions) is returning for a fifth season. It follows Canadian filmmaker Mark Kenneth Woods as he travels to Pride celebrations around the globe to learn about LGBTQ+ history.
OUTtv COO Philip Webb said the “spring slate of originals and acquisitions offers a real celebration of LGBTQ+ stories for our viewers.”
