The Telus Fund is marking its 10th anniversary with a series of free, national workshops for producers “who are passionate about creating content that can have a positive impact.”
The Funding Forward! initiative will run in select cities across Canada from May 16 to June 2. It will offer tools and resources to secure financing and build audiences for “content that promotes the well-being of people in their environment,” according to a news release.
The in-person workshops kick off in Calgary, followed by Winnipeg on May 17, Regina on May 19, Vancouver on May 24, Toronto on May 30, Montreal on May 31 and Halifax on June 2.
Telus Fund executive director Elizabeth Friesen will be at the workshops along with expert guests Moyra Rodger, CEO and founder of Magnify Digital, and Wendy Bernfeld, founder and managing director of Rights Stuff.
They’ll cover topics including how to maximize distribution of English-language well-being content worldwide and how to create a marketing plan for the English market, said the release, which noted that well-being subjects are “in high demand with English audiences.”
The Telus Fund finances TV programs, feature-length films, web series and interactive digital content at three stages: development, production, and discoverability.
Since 2013, it has allocated more than $38 million to the creation of over 100 Canadian screen media projects and special initiatives that tackle health and well-being issues, said the release.
