Crave, Télé-Québec and Radio-Canada have scooped up a number of children’s series from Paris-based distributor Superights.
French-language public broadcaster Radio Canada has acquired Canadian rights to Emmy award-winning preschool series Go! Go! Cory Carson (pictured), produced by Vtech and U.S. animation company Kuku Studio. The series’ catalogue includes seven-minute episodes, a 42-minute movie, and several 22-minute specials.
Crave picked up Pat the Dog, (141 x 7 minutes; 4 x 26 minutes), produced by France’s Superprod, Italy’s Animoka Studios, Canal+, and Belgium’s RTBF and Ketnet; Percy’s Tiger Tales (52 x 13 minutes), by Luxembourg’s La Fabrique d’Images; Geronimo Stilton (78 x 26 minutes) from Italy’s Atlantyca Entertainment and Superprod; Chinese streamer Tencent Video series The Adventures of Little Penguin (52 x 5 minutes), animated by Australia’s Luce Creative; and Will (52 x 2 minutes), from France’s Cross River Productions.
Télé-Québec has picked up Deep in the Bowl (52 x 5 minutes) from Luxembourg’s Zeilt Productions, Tencent Video and France’s Watt Frame. The public broadcaster has also renewed its rights to children’s clay-making tutorial Clay Time (90 x 4.5 minutes; Reaz-JLA Group) and acquired the third season.
Disney+
Canadian sitcom Little Mosque on the Prairie has found a new home in Canada on Disney+. The series, which originally aired on CBC from 2007 to 2012 and produced by WestWind Pictures, was added to the service on April 3, after the streamer’s Canadian team negotiated the rights for all six seasons. Little Mosque on the Prairie was previously sold to Hulu in the U.S.
Gusto TV
Ottawa-based international food channel Gusto TV has partnered with Luxembourg-headquartered Millicom to launch a Spanish-language linear cable channel across nine Latin American countries through its Tigo brand.
Millicom will provide the new channel to its 50 million customers in Panama, Paraguay, Colombia, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala and Nicaragua, according to a news release.
Daniel De Simone, CCO, Millicom/Tigo said in a statement that the new channel “represents a quality entertainment option that enhances the culture of Latin America.” Carrie Gillis, VP and GM, Gusto TV added that Gusto TV sees “tremendous synergistic growth opportunities” in bringing the food channel to Spanish audiences.
WildBrain
Toronto and Halifax-based WildBrain has sold the Halloween special of The Brilliant World of Tom Gates to B.C. public broadcaster Knowledge Network.
Both of its seasons have also been sold to TV3-Televisió de Catalunya’s children’s channel SX3 (Spain) and Showmax (Africa), joining international platforms including Da Vinci (the US), RTP (Portugal), E-Vision and ejunior (MENA and Pakistan) and Now TV (Hong Kong).
Based on the British children’s book series of the same name by Liz Pichon, the series is produced by TG Entertainment and combines 2D and stop-motion animation with live action and consists of two seasons and a pair of holiday specials recounting the daily adventures of its eponymous protagonist. U.K. broadcaster Sky recently renewed the series for a third season.
