CTV has renewed its hit medical drama Transplant for a fourth season.
The 10 x 60-minute new season, set to film in Montreal in spring, comes in at a lower episode count than its previous 13-episode seasons. The series is produced by Sphere Media and created by Joseph Kay, who will continue to serve as showrunner and executive producer.
Transplant is the “most-watched Canadian drama series with total viewers and all key demos” and a “top 20 series” for CTV in the 25 to 54 demo, according to a news release from Bell Media, which cited Numeris final data from Sept. 19, 2022 to Feb. 12, 2023.
The series stars Hamza Haq (pictured right) as a surgical resident at a Toronto hospital who copes with the demands of the job and the trauma from his past in Syria. Season four will air during CTV’s 2023-24 broadcast season.
Haq and co-star Laurence Leboeuf (picture left) are nominated for Best Lead Performer, Drama Series at the 2023 Canadian Screen Awards, where Transplant is also up for Best Drama Series among a total of eight nominations.
Additional returning cast members include Ayisha Issa (Polar), Jim Watson (Designated Survivor), Rekha Sharma (Yellowjackets), Sirena Gulamgaus (Chapelwaite), Torri Higginson (This Life), Kenny Wong (Pretty Hard Cases), Sugith Varughese (Kim’s Convenience), and Gord Rand (Orphan Black).
Executive producers on Transplant include Bruno Dubé, Jocelyn Deschênes, and Josée Vallée of Sphere Media, writer Rachel Langer, director Stefan Pleszczynski, and Sarah Timmins.
NBCUniversal Global Distribution handles worldwide distribution for the series, which is produced in participation of the Canada Media Fund, the Bell Fund, and federal and provincial tax credits.
