Sky Crime acquires true crime doc from Cineflix

The two-part documentary is slated to air in the U.K. on Sept. 3 under the title The Torso Killer.

Sky Crime has acquired the two-part true-crime doc The Torso Killer Confessions from Cineflix Productions for broadcast in the U.K., where it will air on Sept. 3 under the shortened title of The Torso Killer.

The doc special, which premiered on A&E earlier this month, covers the decades-long work of detective Robert Anzilotti to build a relationship with imprisoned serial killer Robert Cottingham in order to extract confessions to further unsolved murders. The film includes previously unreleased audio, exclusive footage and photos, and a new confession from Cottingham that had not yet been made public.

“This wasn’t just another gratuitous sensationalizing of a serial killer’s spree; this is a story of the cop that spent a majority of his career to give some form of closure to families and hold Richard Cottingham accountable for his horrific crimes against young women,” said Cineflix president and head of content J.C. Mills.

The Torso Killer is executive produced by Mills, Anzilotti, Jacqueline Bynon and Sherri Rufh, with Elaine Frontain Bryant, Brad Abramson and Maitee Cueva executive producing for A&E Network. The Sky Crime deal was brokered with Sky UK by Sandra Piha, Cineflix Rights’ SVP of sales, pan-regional, U.K., Ireland and Scandinavia.
