SODEC selects 21 projects for development support

Among the selections are 14 narrative titles, six documentaries, and one animation.

The Société de développement des entreprises culturelle (SODEC) has selected 21 scripted and unscripted projects for its development assistance program.

The fund provides support for scripts and prototyping for animation. Of the 21 chosen, 14 were for narrative titles, six for documentary, and one for animation. A total of 67 projects applied for this round of support, according to a news release.

Among the 14 narrative projects are two coproductions: Art et essai and Autres histoires’ Querelle de Roberval, written by Gabrielle Demers and Kevin Lambert, and Productions Casablanca and B.C.-based Sherpas Cinema’s copro Va me chercher Baby Doll, written by Marielle Caron and Lucie Lachapelle. The list also includes rewrite support for Art et essai’s Superluminall, written by director Kristina Wagenbauer.

Also selected are Colonelle Films’ Chasing Monsters, written by director Kaveh Nabatian; Téléfiction’s La machine, written by Nicole Bélanger and to be directed by Tristan Dubois; Parce Que Films’ Comme dans tes rêves, written by director Joël Vaudreuil; Slykid & Skykid’s Bad Beauty, written by Chris Bavota and Lee Paula Springer; and Max Films’ Paradis City, written by director Jean-Philippe Duval.

Rounding out the selections are Karaman Productions’ Comme si de rien n’était, written by Samer Najari; Le Foyer Films’ Hangar ouest, written by director Pier-Philippe Chevigny; Amalga Créations Medias’ Jehane Benoît, written by Emmanuelle Gilbert; Max Films Media’s Le boulevard, written by director Sébastien Rose; Couronne Nord’s Jeune gangster, written by Nicolas Krief and Marwa Laquerre-Tantawy; and Films le progrès furtif du temps vers l’éternité title The Crooked Timber, written by director Vanya Rose.

The six documentary projects selected are Picbois Productions’ Une sur trois, written by Julie Boisvert and Élise Ekker-Lambert; Némésis Films’ Un train à pas d’heure by Jonah Malak; Les Films de l’Autre’s Dans le triangle des Bermudes by François Jacob; Leitmotiv’s L’immortel by Sara Nacer; Loaded Pictures’ Three Trips to Venice Beach by Derek Lebrero; and Rapide-Blanc’s Ukraine Solar Universe by Alexandra Sicotte-Levesque.

Finally, prototype support has been provided to 10e Ave Productions’ animation project Histoire de fous, written by Émilie Rosas and directed by Christine Dallaire-Dupont.

Details on the yearly production and development financial support given by SODEC will be available in the organization’s annual report, published in September.
