Quebecor Content has inked a deal with Paramount Global Content Distribution for SVOD Club illico to serve as the exclusive French-language home for Paramount Pictures films in Canada.
The pay-one licensing agreement was announced on Wednesday (Feb. 22), but has been in effect as of December 2022, according to a news release. It brings French-language versions of Paramount Pictures films to the streamer following their theatrical release.
Films included as part of the deal are Top Gun: Maverick and Babylon (pictured), which have already been added to Club illico, as well as upcoming theatrical titles Scream 6, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, and parts one and two of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning.
Louis Pearson, senior director, acquisitions and original film at Quebecor Content, said the agreement “significantly broadens” the calibre of offerings on the streamer and “strengthens Club illico’s position as a leader among French-language streaming services in Canada,” in a statement.
Bell Media inked a similar agreement in the English market with Sony Pictures Entertainment in December 2022, giving SVOD Crave exclusive pay-one window rights to upcoming Sony films such as Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and Madame Web.
Paramount Global Content Distribution recently snapped up international rights to Matt Johnson’s upcoming Canadian feature BlackBerry, which made its world premiere at Berlinale last week.
