NATPE Budapest dates move up by one week

The European marketplace will mark the first NATPE event to take place following its acquisition by Brunico Communications.

NATPE Budapest has changed the dates for its 2023 event, which will now take place on June 19 to 22, according to organizer Brunico Communications.

The annual event at the Intercontinental Hotel in Budapest was first confirmed following NATPE’s acquisition by Playback parentco Brunico in January. The company also produces the Realscreen Summit, Kidscreen Summit and Banff World Media Festival.

The content marketplace was originally scheduled to run between June 26 to 28. The dates were moved up to “avoid conflicting with Eid al-Adha holiday celebrations the following week,” according to a news release.

The programming includes the the Pitch & Play Live! competition, co-presented by NATPE and Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) trade publication and network CEETV, which features original format concepts with international potential from the CEE and Europe, the Middle East and Africa regions. Participants will be able to vie for international recognition in NATPE’s partner publications and win an all-access pass to attend NATPE Global 2024, said the release.

NATPE’s organizers also announced that the event will organize a delegation from the Ukrainian content community at its market to facilitate business.

“Last year, NATPE Budapest welcomed nearly 400 leading buyers from the CEE region, and we expect to improve upon that based on the critical success of the last edition,” said Brunico president and CEO Russell Goldstein in a statement.

Details about the event will be updated regularly at NATPE Budapest’s website. More details about NATPE’s conference and matchmaking program, as well as a screenings schedule, will be announced at a later date.

NATPE, which became well-known for its large-scale TV trade shows over its six-decade history, filed for bankruptcy in October due to significant revenue loss after pandemic-related cancellations of its events. Months later, Brunico successfully purchased NATPE’s assets. The sale included NATPE’s international content markets, conferences and events such as NATPE Global, NATPE Budapest, NATPE Streaming+ and the Brandon Tartikoff Legacy Awards.
