Capital Motion Picture Group launches hybrid streaming service

Founder Michael Dobbin will preview JustWatchMe.tv at Prime Time this week and explore opportunities for original commissions.

Ottawa-based distributor Capital Motion Picture Group has launched global hybrid streaming service JustWatchMe.tv.

The platform operates as a free, ad-supported TV (FAST) channel and VOD service, in addition to offering commercial-free content with a $4.99 subscription.

Capital Motion Picture Group will debut JustWatchMe.tv at the Canadian Media Producers Association’s Prime Time conference in Ottawa, which runs from Wednesday through Friday (Feb. 1 to 3). Founder Michael Dobbin (pictured) will be in attendance to explore opportunities to commission original Canadian content for the service, according to a news release.

“We’re hoping that JustWatchMe.tv can grow to feel like home for Canadian producers and their content which we all love, but rarely get to see,” said Dobbin in a statement.

JustWatchMe.tv will have an official launch to the general public in Q2, and is available worldwide on iOS, Apple TV, Android TV, Roku and Fire TV. The current catalogue includes films such as the 2019 drama End of Sentence, A Star is Born (1937), Night of the Living Dead (1968) and Fear and Desire (1952).

Capital Motion is actively acquiring feature films, documentaries and series, Dobbin tells Playback Daily. The commissioning strategy also includes both films and series. Other future plans include livestreamed red carpets and film festival events.
