TVO Today Docs EP Jane Jankovic to retire

Jankovic has garnered several awards during her nearly 30 years at the Ontario public broadcaster.

Jane Jankovic, executive producer of documentaries at TVO Today Docs, announced her retirement on Monday (Dec. 19) after nearly 30 years with the Ontario pubcaster.

Jankovic (pictured) has produced more than 100 films in her tenure, including such titles as The Night Cook, A Better Man and Borealis. Several films she commissioned, including Broke, Sugar Coated and Ghosts of Afghanistan, have gone on to win the Donald Brittain Award at the Canadian Screen Awards, which honours the best TV documentary on a social or political topic.

“This is a bittersweet moment for TVO, and for documentaries in Canada as a whole. Jane has made an extraordinary impact,” said John Ferri, VP of programming and content at TVO, in a news release.

“Documentaries are one of this country’s greatest cultural offerings to the world, and Jane has upheld this tradition with her visionary leadership. We can’t wait to see what she does next.”

TVO is considering its next steps in filling Jankovic’s position, but the pubcaster stated that in the meantime, TVO Today Docs will continue to commission, broadcast and stream documentaries as per usual.
