The horror thriller film stars wrestler Chris Jericho and is produced by Edmonton-based prodco Dept.9 Studios.

Production has wrapped in Edmonton on Lowell Dean’s horror thriller feature Dark Match.

Written and directed by Dean (pictured; Wolfcop), the film is produced by John MacDonald, founder of Edmonton-based prodco Dept.9 Studios, which doubles as a 26,000-square-foot, full-service production facility. He also serves as an executive producer alongside star and American-Canadian professional wrestler Chris Jericho (Terrifier 2).

Additional producers on the film are Dept.9 Studios president and COO Don Depoe and development and production executive Michael Feehan, Rhonda Baker (The Grudge), and Michael Peterson (Dark Nature). There is no distributor attached as of press time, according to a spokesperson for the film.

Dark Match follows a wrestling company that accepts a high-paying gig in a small town and discovers that the town is run by a mysterious cult leader. Joining Jericho in the cast are Ayisha Issa (Transplant), Steven Ogg (Westworld), Sara Canning (The Vampire Diaries), Michael Eklund (The Call) and Jonathan Cherry (Goon).

MacDonald founded Dept.9 Studios in 2019. In addition to developing and producing original feature films, television, and web series, the company provides post-production and music recording services, according to their website.
